Michelle Obama Reveals Her Spotify Girl-Power Playlist On International Day Of The Girl

R-E-S-P-E-C-T is definitely something to give First Lady Michelle Obama and her awesome Spotify playlist in celebration of the United Nation's International Day of the Girl on Oct. 11. The first lady tweeted a selfie and a link to her playlist containing songs from some of the more empowered females in the music industry.

Mrs. Obama definitely knows how to celebrate girls as her playlist contained not only empowered female singers, but songs that would help build up a girl's confidence. Her playlist included songs across the decades from icons such as Aretha Franklin, Billie Holiday, Diana Ross, Lauryn Hill, Esperanza Saplding, TLC, Destiny's Child, Demi Lovato, Jessie J., Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj, among others. She also included soundtracks for film and Broadway such as Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth's duet "Defying Gravity," sung by Elphaba and Glinda in "Wicked," and, of course, The Barden Bellas.

The First Lady is also promoting her campaign "Let Girls Learn" which endeavors to give girls all over the world access to education, benefitting around 62 million girls, some of whom reside in developing countries, and also to encourage American girls to take advantage of the opportunities available to them.

"These efforts will be community-generated and community-led, based on solutions devised by local leaders, families and girls themselves," Mrs. Obama wrote.

"We know that a girl with an education can shape her own destiny, lift up her family, and transform her community" declares the campaign page on The White House's website and with the playlist of songs by and about strong, independent women, Mrs. Obama shows she firmly believes in what she's talking about.

The International Day of the Girl may have passed, but we can still enjoy the music the First Lady picked out.
