A new addition to Samsung's Galaxy A series will apparently come as the Galaxy A9 — the device has now surfaced on AnTuTu, listed with some core specs.
Samsung has long been criticized for its love of plastic, and its Galaxy A series was a notable step in the right direction, opting for more premium full-metal designs. The company initially launched three devices under this lineup – the Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7 – and added a Galaxy A8 not too long ago, but it's expected to unveil more Galaxy A smartphones sometime this year.
If the latest leaks turn out to be accurate, a new Samsung Galaxy A9 will join the family soon — but it still won't come with premium specifications. A new AnTuTu benchmark listing surfaced online – courtesy of prolific tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer, aka @OnLeaks – revealing upper-mid-range specifications for the purported Galaxy A9.
More specifically, AnTuTu lists a device with model number SM-A9000, which is most likely the Galaxy A9, with a 5.5-inch full HD display (1920 x 1080 pixels), a Qualcomm Snapdragon 620 (MSM8976) processor, Adreno 510 graphics and 3 GB of RAM. Other listed specs include 32 GB of internal storage space and Android 5.1.1 Lollipop on the software side.
The AnTuTu benchmark listing makes no mention of cameras, expandable storage, battery or other specifications — so the rest of the handset's purported hardware internals remain unknown at this point.
Previous leaks, meanwhile, suggested that the Samsung Galaxy A9 will feature a 16-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel front camera, microSD card support for up to 128 GB of additional storage and optional dual-SIM support.
Considering that it will be part of the Galaxy A series, this purported Galaxy A9 should also come with a full-metal design to make it look and feel more premium.
Samsung has yet to confirm plans to launch a new Galaxy A9 smartphone, however — which means that it all remains in the rumor state for now. Samsung could unveil the handset sometime next month, in time for the holiday season, but nothing is official just yet. As always in such cases, it's highly recommended to take all leaks and rumors with a hefty grain of salt until a formal announcement.
