The Microsoft Lumia 950 XL and the Google Nexus 6P are among two of the most wanted smartphones of 2015. Both handsets include top-notch features that can impress buyers looking for a high-end mobile phone.

Here is a head-to-head comparison of some features present in the Lumia 950 XL and Nexus 6P.

Display and Screen

Both the Lumia 950 XL and the Nexus 6P have large 5.7-inch AMOLED multi-touch displays with 2,560 by 1,440 pixel resolution. The pixel density of the smartphones are also nearly the same. The Lumia 950 XL has 515 ppi, while the display of Nexus 6P packs 518 ppi.

Processor and RAM

A 2.0 GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor and Adreno 430 powers both the Lumia 950 XL as well as the Nexus 6P.

The RAM is 3 GB in both handsets for high efficiency.

Storage

The Nexus 6P is available in 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB internal storage options. Like previous Nexus smartphones, the new Nexus 6P does not have a microSD card slot that can be used to expand the storage capacity.

The Lumia 950 XL is available only with 32 GB on-board storage. However, with a memory card, the storage can be expanded further to 200 GB.

Camera

The Nexus 6P is equipped with a 12.3 MP rear-facing camera and an 8 MP front-facing camera.

On the other hand, the Lumia 950 XL has an advanced 20 MP primary camera. The selfie camera on the Lumia handset has a smaller 5 MP sensor compared with the Nexus 6P.

Battery

Larger phones like the Nexus 6P and the Lumia 950 XL need a big battery to fuel the handset. The Lumia 950 XL comes with a 3,340 mAh battery, which Microsoft claims can offer 300 hours of standby time and up to 19 hours of talk time.

The Nexus 6P has a slightly bigger 3,450 mAh battery. Google has not mentioned the usage and standby time of the Nexus 6P but the company claims that users can get seven hours of usage with just 10 minutes of charging.

Both the smartphones have USB Type-C charging port for faster charging.

Operating system

The Lumia 950 XL runs on the latest Windows 10 Mobile operating system, and the Nexus 6P will run on the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow platform.

Form factor

The Microsoft Lumia 950 XL measures 5.98 by 3.09 by 0.32 inches, or 151.9 by 78.4 by 8.1 mm, which makes it slightly smaller and thinner than the Nexus 6P, which measures 6.27 by 3.06 by 0.29 inches, or 159.3 by 77.8 by 7.3 mm.

The Lumia 950 XL weighs 5.82 ounces, or 165 grams, making it lighter than the Nexus 6P, which weighs 6.28 ounces, or 178 grams.

The Lumia 950 XL has a plastic body, but the Nexus 6P is the first handset in the Nexus lineup to boast an all-metal body, which gives it a premium look.

Availability and Pricing

The Lumia 950 XL will be available from November this year and will have a price tag of $649.

The Nexus 6P will have a starting price of $499. The 64 GB version of the Nexus 6P will be priced $549, while the 128 GB iteration will cost $649.

The handsets run on separate platforms but have many common and strong features. Customers of either phone will enjoy the latest operating system on offer.

Smartphone customers looking for a high-end Windows 10 Mobile handset may opt for the Lumia 950 XL. However, price-sensitive customers may buy the 32 GB or 64 GB Nexus 6P and save between $100 and $150.
