Google is looking to change the way the world views the cloud and cloud-based data analysis software and is hoping that changes it is making to how data decompression is being done will help move the sector forward into new innovative and modern methods.
The moves come on the heels of much discussion over the future of data and whether the traditional methods, at least those used in the past decade, need updating.
With cloud platforms becoming the new en vogue tech construct, the future of cloud should assist users and developers in managing their services and data to develop and create "data pipelines" that are able to help manage data streams. In a way, it is the end of the open-source Hadoop, which had been the catchphrase for scalable data analysis over the past decade.
Now, with Google unveiling Google Cloud Dataflow, this is aimed at being that successor and taking over from the popular MapReduce service.
Greg DeMichillie wrote on the Google Cloud Platform Blog that he hopes it will help developers understand and use data easier in order to help move cloud platforms and functionality forward.
"A decade ago, Google invented MapReduce to process massive data sets using distributed computing," he wrote. "Since then, more devices and information require more capable analytics pipelines, though they are difficult to create and maintain."
He believes that Cloud Dataflow will also be a major assistance in this process.
"Cloud Dataflow makes it easy for you to get actionable insights from your data while lowering operational costs without the hassles of deploying, maintaining or scaling infrastructure. You can use Cloud Dataflow for use cases like ETL, batch data processing and streaming analytics, and it will automatically optimize, deploy and manage the code and resources required," added Demichillie.
Cloud platforms have taken hold across the tech sector. Most companies believe that by fine-tuning the cloud platform that they have, including giving better means of analyzing and using data in a more streamlined process, they could help deliver a new and innovative cloud that goes beyond what has been traditionally employed.
The goal, Google hopes, will be to have a new cloud enterprise that will force other companies to follow suit or face missing out on the future of cloud and data technologies.
