A few days ago, Google unveiled the much-awaited Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Sony, regarded as as one of the best Android OEMs when it comes to updates, is quick in revealing which of its devices are worthy to make the jump to Marshmallow.
The Sony devices which will be given Android 6.0, based on a blog post shared by Sony, consist of the Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z2, Xperia C5 Ultra, Xperia M5, Xperia M4 Aqua as well as the Xperia C4.
"We’ve been working hard to bring this major update to as many of our devices as possible, as quickly as we can," wrote Sony on a blog post. "We’re really excited about the new Sony features and functionality and the improvements we’ve made to the user experience – and we’ll be sharing more soon."
Unfortunately, the company confirmed that the Stagefright exploit has not been completely fixed in the rolled-out update.
"Looks like the Stagefright exploit has not been fully patched in this update. We will attach some FTF firmware links in this post in due course, but in the meantime, if you have installed the update, let us know your initial impressions below," added Sony.
The blog post did not mention the Xperia Z1 and Z1 Compact. It also seems that the following units are not deserving of the Marshmallow update: Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia A4 and Xperia E3.
The post did say that the company is going to talk about more of the features incorporated in the update. The post also stated a standard disclaimer with regard to timing and availability, which vary depending on the operator and market.
A few weeks ago, Sony rolled out Android 5.1.1 to old Sony Xperia Z series devices, including the Xperia Z, Tablet Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and Xperia ZL.
