Skullgirls Developer Launches Crowdfunding Campaign For Impressive New Action RPG

Lab Zero Games, the developer of Skullgirls, is creating a new game that needs some backing for it to achieve full completion.

Dubbed Indivisible, the new RPG title is now launched in a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo and has a funding goal set at $1.5 million. As of this writing, it has already earned more than $120,000 or 8 percent of the needed funding and has more than 1,000 people as backers.

Lab Zero Games said that the game has a total budget of $3,500,000. If the funding goal is successfully reached, the remaining $2,000,000 of the budget will be covered by 505 Games, the game publisher.

For players who need to have a more hands-on approach, Lab Zero is also releasing a free prototype version of the game which can be downloaded from Indiegogo's site. Initially, it is available to Windows users although other versions such as Mac and Linux will also be made available in the next couple of days.

"We felt that in order to justify asking for so much money, we had to do more than just present an idea for the game, and give players something they could actually touch and enjoy," said Lab Zero. "In addition to making an abstract game idea more concrete for backers, it helped us figure out some important parts of our development pipeline before asking for your money."

Indivisible is a side-scrolling RPG which features the character of Ajna as the game's protagonist.

"A good-natured tomboy with a rebellious streak, Ajna was raised by her father on the outskirts of their rural town," states the game's overview on Indiegogo. "Her father raised her to be fair-minded and tough, and trained her in martial arts so that she might defend their home. When their town is attacked by local warlords, Ajna discovers a mysterious power - the power to absorb certain individuals into her being. Furthermore, fusing with these "Incarnations" will not only allow her to summon them into battle, but also grant Ajna new weapons and abilities."

Incarnations are people who Ajna can absorb into herself, making her gain more power along the way. Some of them are identified as Zebei, Razmi and Tungar.

The game's battle system is inspired by Valkyrie Profile and Super Metroid. In Indivisible however, the battles are not strictly turn-based. In other words, characters can attack any time and recharging of actions is done in real time both for the player and his enemies in the game.

Apart from absorbing people to gain more powers, Ajna also has the special ability to meditate and enter a strange dimension within herself. As she becomes more familiar with her "Inner Realm," the latter then becomes the central hub for the game. At this point, players can simply press a button to get them to the game's quests, upgrade and saving functionality. They can start having their own custom town, anywhere, with a single touch of a button.

The game has a targeted playtime duration of about 20 to 30 hours for the main scenario. The soundtrack is created by legendary Japanese game music composer Hiroki Kikuta (Koudelka, Soukaigi, Secret of Mana and Seiken Densetsu III). It is in development for platforms such as Xbox One, Windows PC, PlayStation 4, Linux and Mac and is estimated for a release in January 2018.
