LG's latest multimedia capabilities-rich LG V10 smartphone has been unleashed on users and the device boasts a novel feature, which makes it stand out from the crowd - a dual display.
That's right! The 5.7-inch LG V10 has two screens, but what is the second screen for you wonder? Among other things, it is to enhance the productivity of the LG V10 without compromising on the device's battery power.
"Always pushing the boundaries of smartphone innovation, LG is introducing a Second Screen as an inset display above the main 5.7-inch QHD IPS Quantum Display on the V10," notes the company.
Physically, the two screens have been built in such a manner that they look like a single glass sheet. The secondary screen has basically been placed on the primary QHD display sported by the LG V10 and has a separate backlight to power it.
The second screen on the LG V10 can be set up so to the "always on" mode so that it is remains switched on at all times. When the primary display is turned off, the second screen will show the user data such as the date, time, weather etc.
What happens when a user turns the main display on you ask? Then the second screen acts like a shortcut bar, giving a user access to their much-loved apps.
The idea of the secondary display is to address the issue of a smartphone user constantly unlocking the device to check pretty much every alert. According to LG, on an average a user checks their smartphone 100 times in a day for this purpose.
However, with the LG V10 having two screens, this problem can now be alleviated with ease. The second screen will not only give the app shortcuts, alerts, weather updates, battery status, settings for camera and quick-launch tools, but also save nearly 5 percent of the battery power of the smartphone.
If a user turns their screen off or powers it on less frequently, then in the long-term the LG V10 could save more battery drainage.
The other advantage of a second screen is that when a user is in the middle of a game or watching a movie and they receive a call, their activity will not be interrupted. The second screen will alert them of the call discreetly and not block the view. One has the option to pause their activity to respond to the call or ignore the alert.
However, the big screen size maybe a deal breaker for some people as one may need to stretch their hands to get to the second screen, which can be a tad awkward.
With the LG V10 set to release in the U.S. soon, it will be interesting to see how the phone will be priced and if it catches the consumers' fancy.
