While there has been recent speculation over who the next James Bond could be after Daniel Craig stated he "[couldn't] even conceive" staying on to play 007 in the 25th movie in the decades-old spy franchise, it looks like he's had a change of heart. The British actor confirmed that he will stay on for the role — at least for one more spy flick.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Craig addressed the widespread rumors that the latest Bond film, Spectre, — which will be released in the U.S. on Nov. 6 — would be his last. His answer? He's still on for one more movie, but the 47 year-old actor alluded to how much tougher the demands of the part — especially involving stuntwork — have become with age.
'It's getting easier because I'm doing less [stunt work] ... I've got so many good doubles," said Craig. "I work myself to death [to stay in shape] ... It's getting harder. But such is life. I'll keep going as long as I'm physically able."
"I'm contracted for one more [Bond movie]," Craig confirmed, "but I'm not going to make predictions."
Craig began his almost decade-long stint as 007 back in 2006 with Casino Royale. Craig has been cited as a reinvigorating — and almost cataclysmic — force for the Bond franchise, which the actor acknowledged with humility. 'It's an honor to play him. I get such a big kick out of doing it. I had an opportunity with Casino Royale to wipe the slate clean," he said, then added, "Although I'm not saying it was a rebirth of Bond — that sounds conceited — I was a huge fan of Bond before."
