Asana Announces Latest Product Update: Track Anything, Conversations And Other New Features

Task management application Asana, started by Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz, is getting a makeover with its latest update. Now, users of the web and mobile platforms are getting treated to a refreshed layout, brand new conversation feature and a new tracking feature.

Moskovitz, who is currently chief executive of Asana, told journalists at a Sept. 30 event in the company's San Francisco headquarters that the startup is unveiling a revamped version of Asana that will empower more teams to do things together more easily than ever before.

"We're so excited to share with you what we've been working on for the last several months. Our goal at Asana is to empower teams to do great things together. And today, we're a step closer to that goal, with the new Asana," reads the blog post on the company website.

The renewed version features more white space, a different typeface and an interesting use of color for various actions, making the new design clearer and simpler, according to lead designer Vanessa Koch during the event.

The app's new conversation capability allows users to come up with a conversation around specific tasks. Moskovitz said it is more like a simplified form of an email thread, allowing users to track who is working on a particular task and also control the follower list.

This particular functionality also lets users leave comments under specific tasks.

Meanwhile, the Track Anything functionality will offer users a spreadsheet-like feature. With easy filtering and dashboards, it allows users to inform members of the team who are involved in a specific task. This new feature is presently in beta state and slated to arrive in early 2016.

The group claims that over 140,000 companies are using the service, with the likes of the New York Mets, Snapchat, Harvard University, BuzzFeed, Cisco, NASA and Tesla on board.

In the meantime, the startup's logo has also undergone a facelift.

"[The] three dots represent teammates working together, with this glow of energy that's uniting them," Justin Rosenstein, Asana's co-founder, told the press.

Moskovitz and Rosenstein established the startup in 2009 and was developed as a work tracking tool utilized internally at Facebook.
