Aside from the perennially free gourmet food, the free-booze Fridays and the high-tech sleeping pods featuring relaxing music and light vibrations to gently wake the sleeper up, here's another reason to want to work at Google.
Apparently, the search company's corporate heart has a soft spot, especially for little Katie, who wrote to Google's higher ups to ask them to give her father a day off on his birthday. Katie's father, who remains unnamed, is a designer working for Google. He works the entire week except on Saturdays. Not even one of the most brilliant engineers at Google can argue with this little girl, who said her father deserves some time off because, you know, it's summer.
The letter, written with a light blue crayon, was first posted on the image-sharing website Imgur and has been making the rounds and spreading warm fuzzy feelings all over the Internet since then.
"Dear Google Worker," the letter reads. "Can you please make sure when daddy gets to work, he gets one day off. Like he can get a day off on Wednesday. Because daddy ONLY gets a day off on Saturday. From Katie"
"PS: It's daddy's BIRTHDAY!" she adds.
Not content with a plea for her dad's one-day vacation, little Katie adds a cheeky note at the end of her letter.
"PPS: It is summer, you know," she says.
And, of course, she's right. What boss in his right might would not give his employees a summer vacation? After all, kids in school get them, so why can't Katie's dad? Daniel Shiplacoff, Katie's father's boss, agrees.
Obviously, the man is overwhelmed by Katie's adorable request that he didn't just give in to what she asked for. He gave her something more.
"Dear Katie, Thank you for your thoughtful note and request," writes Shiplacoff. "Your father has been hard at work designing many beautiful and delightful things for Google and millions of people across the Globe."
"On the occasion of his Birthday, and recognizing the importance of taking some Wednesdays off during the summer, we are giving him the first week of July as vacation time. Enjoy!" he adds.
Nope, this letter isn't fake. Shiplacoff himself has confirmed to Huffington Post that Katie's dad, who remains unnamed, is one of the valued members of his team.
Looks like one little girl is going to have a really awesome present from her dad.
