The Microsoft Surface Pro 4 is set to launch next week at Microsoft's Oct. 6 event, and the various reports expect the new slate to include the recently introduced Intel Skylake Processor as well as two screen size variants, along with other improvements.
Microsoft has done a pretty good job of keeping the details of its new Surface Pro tablets under wraps, but information culled from various sources now gives us a good idea as to what we can expect.
Most reports have indicated that the Surface Pro is likely to come in two different display size variants, both 12 and 14 inches. The larger display model will be more powerful and will bring the Surface Pro even closer to resembling a laptop in both size and performance — it could contain as much as 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage space. The Surface Pro 4 will almost certainly feature a model equaling the size of the Surface Pro 3 because Microsoft pledged to make the earlier Surface Pro accessories, including the covers, usable on future variants.
The display on the smaller version could still be a tiny bit larger than that of last year, if a new report that the Surface Pro 4 will have smaller, almost invisible bezels turns out to be true.
Last month, we reported that the Surface Pro 4 will very likely run on Intel's newly introduced Skylake Processor. Respected tech pundits cryptically pointed to the inclusion of Skylake in the Surface Pro, and it makes perfect sense that Microsoft's latest tablet will run Intel's newest, most powerful chipset. Besides overall performance improvements, Skylake would help the Surface Pro 4 to run cooler than its predecessor, which tends to heat up quickly, and allow more powerful video options for the slate.
The accuracy and touch sensitivity of the Surface Pro 4 stylus is also expected to improve due to Microsoft's recent acquisition of N-Trig's Surface Pen technology. The Windows Hello feature, which allows the user to sign in using facial-recognition technology, is also expected on board, as the feature is a highly touted highlight of Windows 10, which will be the OS running on the new tablet.
Microsoft is expected to reveal the official specs and details of the Surface Pro 4 on Oct. 6.
