Home-monitoring systems are becoming increasingly popular, with systems like Nest's Dropcam being perhaps the best known of these systems.
Logitech has released a new home-monitoring camera system called the Logi Circle, which is billed as not just being a way to monitor your home, but something that can also be used as a webcam.
Logitech customers also will get 24 hours of video rewinding from their cloud service, which is something that customers of Nest have to pay for. The Circle costs $200.
The release of the Circle is a first for Logitech, although the company is known for its webcams and outdoor security cameras, so a home monitoring system is a logical (pun intended) way forward for the company.
The camera captures video in 1080p, offers wide-angle viewing, and can zoom in 8x. One of the best things is that you can see what's happening in your home no matter where you are in the world.
It also offers a "talk and listen" feature, which essentially allows users to use the camera to chat with people back home, using the camera's built-in speaker for a two-way chat.
Of course, the system isn't just about the hardware. The software that accompanies the Logi Circle has a number of unique features. For example, it can create a "day brief," which is a speeded-up video showing the highlights of the day. When a user is browsing the video through the iOS or Android app, it will also create a filtered version of the video that shows the more interesting parts of the day.
So far the reviews for the camera have been pretty good. Most suggest that while the camera isn't as sleek as those from companies like Nest, it doesn't look bad at all. More important, it's a great way to keep an eye on your home when you're away.
