Google unveiled more than just smartphones at its Sept. 29 event in San Francisco. The California-based company also presented Nexus Protect premium warranty, costing $69 and $89 for Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P respectively.
After revealing the new Nexus 5X from LG and Nexus 6P from Huawei, Google wasn't done yet. The company followed its announcements about the new Nexus phones with an improved warranty service for them. Nexus Protect puts clumsy customers at ease because of its promising benefits.
First, the Nexus Protect offers an extended warranty, providing two years of coverage instead of one.
Second, Google representatives at the event said that it covers accidental damage and mechanical breakdowns, including but not limited to drop and water damage, as well as a $79 deductible.
Lastly, with Google's quick service, it also promises that it will bring a replacement within one business day if a device under the warranty were to break. The enhanced warranty can be bought at the Google Store with Nexus devices.
Google hasn't said anything yet if the Nexus Protect will be available for other gadgets, and if not, it seems likely that it will offer a similar service designed for other devices instead.
In a way, Nexus Protect is Google's response to AppleCare+, Apple's premium warranty program that offers similar benefits but at a higher price designed for iPhones.
At the big event, Google also introduced the upcoming Pixel C, a tablet-slash-laptop device that runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. This powerful tablet is designed to rival Apple's iPad Pro.
"This year we've gone a step forward. We have a more comprehensive lineup," Sundar Pichai, Google CEO, said.
