BlackBerry has announced plans to launch the Priv, a new Android-based smartphone with a slider, saying that it combines BlackBerry's security features with the best parts of Android.
Of course, Android is a fairly new operating system for BlackBerry, but you would think that the CEO of the company would brush up on his Android knowledge considering his company is now releasing phones that run its operating system.
Instead, in a video demonstrating the new phone, Chen said multiple times that it "runs Google" and faltered during the demonstration of the device while trying to open up the app tray, then turning to Chrome, which responded very slowly before it finally opened and Chen realized that it wasn't logged in to a Google account.
The demonstration was impromptu, and if Chen wasn't prepared to talk about the features of the device, then it is perhaps excusable that he faltered during the demonstration. Not even knowing the name Android, however, isn't as excusable and is symbolic of the difficulties that Blackberry is experiencing.
Of course, Chen's lack of Android knowledge is more than likely not demonstrative of the company's knowledge of Android as a whole. Hopefully, the device will respond better in real life than it did during the demonstration, but only time will tell as the BlackBerry Priv will be hitting stores later this year.
