The top story on Last Week Tonight with John Oliver always revolves around a timely topic, and Sunday night's installment of the satirical news show was no exception. Host John Oliver examined some of the more outrageous developments in the migrant crisis currently taking place in Europe, and he did so with a little help from some Days of Our Lives characters you probably didn't think you'd see on TV together ever again.
As usual, Oliver used a wide variety of clips to show how migrants are being treated in Europe and how the media is representing the migrant crisis. This ranged from Fox News using old and misleading footage to suggest a terrorism connection to a group of refugees, the mayor of a Hungarian city trying to intimidate migrants to stay away from his municipality and a Hungarian camera operator getting caught on tape tripping a child trying to seek refuge in her country.
The one bright spot in Sunday night's Last Week Tonight segment was Noujain Mustaffa, a 16-year-old disabled Syrian refugee who traveled for days by raft and train to seek asylum in Europe. Not only did we learn that she dreams of being an astronaut who will one day meet an alien and the Queen of England, but we also found out that she learned how to speak English by watching the daytime soap opera Days of Our Lives. In the news clip, we see Mustaffa speak so emphatically about the show, which she was disappointed with when it killed off her favorite character (SPOILER ALERT) EJ DiMera (James Scott).
Last Week Tonight may not be able to solve the mirgant crisis, but the show did make a few calls to resurrect EJ just for Mustaffa. His appearance on Last Week Tonight will not only make you better understand the migrant crisis, but it will also give you chills if you're a fan of this soap.
