Silent Circle has released its privacy-oriented smartphone, the Blackphone 2, which has a steep price tag of $799.
Android phones have been targeted by hackers as they are not encrypted by default. In the wake of increasing attacks on mobile phones, Silent Circle has released Blackphone 2 that promises tough security features which are not available in other Android devices.
"The launch of Blackphone 2 is a game changer for the mobile sector and for the way we provide individual and enterprise privacy," says Bill Conner, president and CEO of Silent Circle. "Blackphone 2 combines an enhanced Android operating system with a suite of apps designed to keep your enterprise and personal information separate and private. We're proud to deliver a safe and sexy device with a seamless user experience"
Apart from high-end security features, the Blackphone 2 also packs in top-notch hardware specs. It sports a 5.5-inch display with 1,920 x 1,080 pixels resolution. The screen size is the same in comparison to the latest iPhone 6s Plus and the LG G4. The Samsung Galaxy S6 has a smaller 5.1-inch display, while the Galaxy Note 5 has a slightly bigger screen.
The Silent Circle smartphone is equipped with a 13MP rear-facing camera and a 5MP front-facing camera. The latest iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus include a 12MP primary camera and a 5MP front camera.
The Blackphone 2 is powered by an unnamed Qualcomm processor and 3GB of RAM. Many market experts believe that under the hood is a Snapdragon 810 processor.
The handset comes with 32GB of on-board storage with the option to expand the memory with a microSD card, a feature that lacks in many top-end phones such as the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, Galaxy S6 and Nexus 6.
The latest Blackphone 2 comes running on Silent OS, which is a modified version of Android 5.1 Lollipop.
The Blackphone 2 is the most secure handset but at the same time it also includes hardware specs that are up to par with some of the high-end smartphones currently available on the market.
Many customers may find the handset expensive. However, the base model of the iPhone 6s Plus, which has 16GB of storage, costs $749 while the 64GB version comes with a price tag of $849, which is higher than the Blackphone 2.
Customers looking for a top-end smartphone which provides good security features may find the Blackphone 2 worth the price.
