The tech world apparently doesn't want to let Amazon take all the media coverage after it launched its first smartphone, as Microsoft reportedly has plans to launch a new mobile device in the next few days and many believe it will be the new Nokia X2.
The move would push the company deeper into smartphone technology and help it enter a market that is quickly becoming saturated with offerings from the industry's largest companies.
While Microsoft has not officially announced it will be launching a new smartphone, let alone the Nokia X2, a countdown has begun on the Nokia Conversations Blog that says there is a new device in the works slated for a June 24 launch.
On the blog, titled "Green With Envy," it argues "Summer brings out our inner glow ... stay tuned to Conversations to find out what we've got in store."
With Amazon's own smartphone launch gaining much media steam, it appears Microsoft wants to follow suit by pushing forward the latest generation Nokia smartphone in an effort to garner interest in the market.
Many believe it will be a new smartphone with the Nokia branding due to the use of green ducks, which have previously been used in Nokia marketing campaigns in the past.
Before American consumers get excited about another smartphone on the market, it appears Microsoft is not aiming for the top-end North American market, but instead for emerging markets such as Africa and Asia, where smartphone sales have seen a dramatic upsurge in recent years.
It is likely to be on the more affordable side and most smartphone observers believe it will borrow from the traditional Android-looking phones, but will push out Microsoft's own apps and services in place of Google. That could be a boost and a boon for the company as it attempts to fully enter the smartphone sector and the app creation and selling space for its phones.
While it remains a waiting game for all interested in the potential new phone launch, nothing officially can be known until June 24, when this unknown device supposedly becomes a reality.
For smartphone observers, the entrance of new companies and innovative devices helps bring down prices as well as deliver new and cool ways to create new smartphones for a wider population.
