'Rainbow Six: Siege' Goes All In For Multiplayer, Will Not Have A Campaign Mode

Ubisoft often made storylines a core aspect of its games, but it's taking a new approach with Rainbow: Six Siege. The last title of the Rainbow Six series will come sans single-player, as the company is placing its bets on the multiplayer experience of today's gaming.

Gamers were not surprised to see the French video game developer follow the general trend, where more and more titles (Star Wars: Battlefront, Evolve, Call of Duty: Black Ops III) are played in a multiplayer-exclusive way.

During the EGX 2015, Ubisoft's art director Scott Mitchell confirmed that a campaign mode will be unavailable, but players can get the hang of the game in training mode. It offers combats against bots and full customization of the matches, so that fans of the series can craft their own make-believe single-player version.

"There is no story mode per se," Mitchell said. "You go through training, where you get to experience different operators and their devices. You can play against enemy AI in co-op through all the maps. You can customize matches, so that's what we're offering on the single-player side of things."

Another great thing about the learning mode, Mitchell points out, is that players can access every operative and its devices and become proficient in using them. Also, training mode allows you to unlock items, gain accolades, and earn points that determine your ranking.

"It's a pretty good training ground," stated Mitchell.

Ubisoft announced it extends the beta testing period for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC until Oct. 1. The feedback from a number of testers showed that some of them can't connect to individual or collective matches and the company is extending the beta trial so it can work on that.

The game producer released an official point of view and affirmed that it acknowledges the problem, and underlined that it is normal for such issues to appear during the final stages of development. Ubisoft assures its fans that the matchmaking is more stable than ever.

The official statement promises fans that all efforts are made to give players the best possible gaming experience, to match the reputation of the Rainbow Six series.
