The next video game from Lionhead Studios is Fable Legends, a title that, while carrying the Fable name, doesn't seem much like the critically acclaimed game series at all.
That's not what we are here to talk about. We're here to talk about the fact that Fable Legends is not coming to Steam, and several gamers are not too pleased with this decision by Microsoft.
The big question is: why has Microsoft decided to release the game only on its own digital platforms? We believe this has everything to do with cross-platform play between the PC and the Xbox One.
Cross-platform titles will have to take full advantage of Xbox Live and all of its features. It should be easy to invite friends to a match, compared with using just an Xbox One-only title.
Because the game is built around the Xbox Live network, Steam doesn't add a single value to it.
For sure, we'll be seeing more titles from Microsoft in the future that do not support Steam, and we suspect this might cause a few problems between Microsoft and Valve.
We now understand the real reasoning behind Valve's move to create its own hardware platform around Linux because the team must have realized that the Windows Store would one day compete directly with Steam.
Fable Legends is a free-to-play game that will only be available for the PC and Xbox One. Players on both platforms will have the option of playing alongside each other in awesome co-op goodness.
The game is set to be released in 2016 as one of the many Xbox One exclusives coming in that year. Gamers will have a lot of options to choose from as Sony and Microsoft compete to grab your every dollar and your attention.
