XYZprinting has released the da Vinci Professional, its first printer compatible with third-party filaments. The da Vinci Professional is aimed at businesses, and will be shown off at the Maker Faire in New York next week.
XYZ says the da Vinci Professional was designed for designers, architects, engineers and any business that needs a high-performance 3D printer.
"With the ability to use all of the world's new, diverse 3D printing materials, the da Vinci Professional will unlock countless possibilities to replicate a wide variety of objects," said Simon Shen, CEO of XYZprinting, in a statement.
The printer has Wi-Fi connectivity, eliminating the need for businesses to wire computers directly to the printer. It can also be run from Android or iOS devices. Not only that, but XYZ has also done away with its printing software – which many considered a drawback to XYZ's printers – creating a new software bundle.
The real selling point, though, is the fact that the printer doesn't require the use of proprietary filaments. This is good news, considering that filaments from XYZ are notoriously unreliable. It also opens up the printer to a huge range of new colors and advanced filaments. Last but not least, the printer will include a new set of preference settings, enabling users to change printing speeds and temperatures.
Details about the price of the new printer have not yet been released, but it's likely to be somewhat in line with the rest of the XYZ range, with the da Vinci 1.1 being priced at $700.
