Heidi Klum is a woman who's found success in a variety of things. She's a supermodel, designer, spokesperson and even a television host. However, when it comes to strollers, it appears that Heidi Klum has failed miserably. Klum designed a baby stroller known as Klum's Truly Scrumptious Travel System; however, the Consumer Reports has deemed it unsafe and has suggested that consumers should not purchase the product.
The stroller TR252BQR is sold exclusively at Babies "R" Us stores for the cool price of $220, which is not very expensive when one considers the fact that this stroller was designed and endorsed by a popular celebrity figure. The problem with Klum's Truly Scrumptious Travel System lies, however, in the buckle, says the Consumer Reports.
"When we applied force where the harness attaches to the buckle itself, the buckle's right side released 10 out of 15 times on three separate samples," notes the report.
Furthermore, the stroller fared a lot worse in an impact test that simulates the stroller hitting a curb. "This time, the buckle's right side released one out of five times on each of two samples, and five out of five time on a third sample."
Interestingly enough, Klum's Truly Scrumptious Travel System is the only such stroller to have a buckle problem in the over-100 strollers tested by Consumer Reports.
It is understood that Consumer Reports contacted Dorel Juvenile Group, the company behind the manufacturing of Klum's Truly Scrumptious Travel System to get more information. The company replied by denying the claims cited in the report, and said it had conducted tests of its own that did not show any defects.
Heidi Klum herself came out in defense of her product by making the following statement to The New York Post
"We only partner with companies that have consistently demonstrated their commitment to meeting the highest standards for the products they manufacture.
"When I heard this news . . . we immediately contacted [the manufacturer] Dorel Juvenile and I will continue to follow up and make sure they are addressing any concerns."
Consumer Reports further went on to say that some other strollers made by Dorel fared better: "We didn't find a problem with a similar buckle on other strollers we tested that were made by Dorel, including the Safety 1st SleekRide Premier Travel System, $245, Disney Saunter Luxe Travel System, $160, and Cosco Commuter Travel System, $135."
"If you're in the market for a travel system, consider the Graco Stylus, $245, and Chicco Cortina KeyFit 30, $330, Consumer Reports' top-rated travel systems," the organization said.
