Yahoo has released a self-disclosed diversity report that shows that the company has more male employees working globally.
Many top companies such as Google and LinkedIn have recently revealed a diversity report that shows several aspects of their company's workforce based on gender, ethnicity and more. On Tuesday, June 17, Yahoo also joined the bandwagon and issued a diversity report that indicates that its diversity is similar to other tech industries.
According to the Yahoo diversity report, around 62 percent of its global employees are male, 32 percent female and 1 percent undisclosed. Around 50 percent of its U.S. workforce is comprised of whites, 39 percent Asian and the rest includes Blacks, Hispanics and other.
A previous report suggests that 70 percent of Google's employees are male. The Internet search company also revealed that 61 percent of its total workforce consists of white workers, 30 percent are Asians and the remainder are African-Americans, Hispanics and other races.
The story is somewhat similar in LinkedIn as well. According to a workforce diversity report published by LinkedIn, 61 percent of its global employees are men. Around 53 percent of the entire workforce is composed of whites, 38 percent of Asians and the balance of the employees belong to other races.
Yahoo also unveiled that 85 percent employees in the tech department and 77 percent of the leadership are made of male employees. However, the non-tech departments of Yahoo have 53 percent female workers.
The leadership team has 77 percent of white workers while the tech department has around 57 percent of Asian workers. Only around one third of the employee population in the tech department is made of whites.
More than 60 percent of the employees in Yahoo's non tech departments are white, 24 percent are Asians and the rest other ethnicities.
"These statistics are only a part of the story - Yahoo works to ensure that our existing employees feel welcome and supported during their time at the company. We have a wide range of Employee Resource Groups that serve people of diverse backgrounds and are highly engaged in their respective communities. For example, Yahoo received a 100% Corporate Equality Index score and was named a 'Best Place to Work for LGBT Equality,'" per Jackie Reses, Chief Development Officer at Yahoo.
Reses indicates that the company's objective is to create a workplace that draws and retains talent irrespective of an employee's background.
