Final Fantasy 14 May Never Come To The Xbox One: Why?

Final Fantasy 14 is one of the most popular MMO titles on the PC and PlayStation 4, so why hasn't the game found a home on the Xbox One after all these years?

Well, according to the head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, it is all about platform exclusivity deals, something he's not a big fan of. We're not certain how that stops Final Fantasy 14 from appearing on the Xbox One since it is a multiplatform title and not exclusive to a single platform.

Still, Spencer did state that he won't go into the specifics, but he did say, "it's business."

"It's business," he said, adding he couldn't speak too candidly about the matter. "As I've grow in this role, and I've tried to learn the third-party exclusivity thing - and you see us doing less of it now - [I've found] it's not something I'm a huge fan of."

Despite what Spencer has to say, we can't help but remember what Naoki Yoshida, the game director of Final Fantasy 14, said back in 2013 in an interview with RPGsite. According to the director, the game won't come to the Xbox One and Xbox 360 because Microsoft wants the game to lock down in Xbox Live.

This means, Xbox One and Xbox 360 players would not be able to play alongside those on the PC and PlayStation 4. Mr. Yoshida envisioned a game where players from every supported platform are playing together, and as such was never going to bow to Microsoft's demands.

On the flip side, we can also see why Microsoft decided not to support this notion. Should this happen, chances are the standard Xbox Live features would not be supported because it wouldn't be possible for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players to communicate unless everything is controlled by Square Enix.

Some might say, "but how come Microsoft is pushing for Xbox One and PC cross-play and chat." Well, everything will fall under Xbox Live, so no problems there.
