Apple officially announced that its latest iOS 9 saw the 'fastest iOS adoption ever,' already running on 50 percent of iPhones, iPads and iPods.
At the same time, the company touts that it saw great response so far for its new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus." The two iPhones will go on sale this Friday, Sept. 25.
"Customer response to the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus has been incredibly positive, we can't wait to get our most advanced iPhones ever into customers' hands starting this Friday," boasts Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, in a new press release on Monday, Sept. 21. "iOS 9 is also off to an amazing start, on pace to be downloaded by more users than any other software release in Apple's history."
The new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will be available in Apple Stores for walk-in customers starting at 8AM on Friday, Sept. 25. At the same time, the two iPhones will also become available on the same day from AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Sprint, T-Mobile, as well as other carriers and select Apple Authorized Resellers.
When it comes to the iOS 9 adoption rates, it remains unclear for now just how Apple estimated that it already runs on more than 50 percent of iOS devices. The latest App Store Distribution page, for instance, shows iOS adoption and distribution as last measured by the App Store on Sept. 14, with no mention of the latest iOS version. The new iOS 9 rolled out to the public on Wednesday, Sept. 16.
Nevertheless, it seems that iOS 9 adoption rates are faster than for any other iOS version, according to Apple's announcement. The much-touted iOS 9 brings a number of notable improvements such as an enhanced Siri digital assistant, improved Apple Maps with transit information, a neat multitasking feature for iPads, an improved Notes app, a new Apple News app, better battery life and more.
Considering recent reports from iOS users who were having trouble updating to the latest iOS 9, news of a 50 percent adoption already is quite impressive.
As for the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, Apple is encouraging walk-in customers to arrive early on Friday if they want to get the latest models. This suggests high demand for the latest-generation iPhones ahead of their commercial release. Last year, Apple sold 10 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus smartphones in the opening weekend and the company now wants to beat that record with its 2015 iPhones.
