The newest advertisement for Apple Music has just been released and has the tagline "Instant boyfriend mixtape service."
On Sunday, Sept. 20, Apple premiered its new commercial for Apple Music midway through the Emmy Awards. The TV spot was a minute long and was directed by Ava DuVernay and stars Kerry Washington, Mary J. Blige and Taraji P. Henson.
The trio is shown chilling out at Mary J. Blige's house on an afternoon. The get-together slowly turned into a spontaneous mixtape party. The host, Blige, takes out several cassettes and rants about the tedious process of selecting the apt songs and shifting them to a tape.
However, Apple Music comes to their rescue as it simplifies the creation of a playlist. One can catalog the music into lists that are selected by humans and given to users on the basis of their mood, preference or a specific taste - i.e. the "For You" section with tailored content.
"It's like you have a boyfriend that makes you a mixtape in your laptop," she says when Washington sums up Apple Music's advantages.
Once the advert aired on TV, DuVernay took to Twitter to tease that two more commercials that would also be starring Henson, Washington and Blige to be released sometime later this week.
However, it is not clear if the impending two commercials will be in the same playlist functionality vein or have an alternate premise, focusing on features such as Beats 1 Radio or content exclusives. Apple launched Apple Music in June this year and has been aggressively pushing out the service. Previously, a commercial was made for the MTV Video Music Awards and starred The Weeknd and had John Travolta in a guest appearance.
