Coming as no surprise, yet still undoubtedly an amazing feat, a fire team has already taken down Orxy and completed Destiny's "King's Fall" raid less than seven hours after it was released.
"King's Fall" was released in the recently launched "Taken King" expansion, billed as the game's most difficult raid so far.
At approximately 8:09 p.m., near Mars' moon Phobos on the Dreadnaught, officials from developer Bungie confirmed that Orxy, who operates under the assumed name the "Taken King," died of wounds inflicted by small arms fire. Approximately 550 members of the Taken also perished in the assault, Bungie reported Friday evening.
After the teams had staged and initiated the raid, Bungie reported the action to social media:
The VersusTheStream squad finished in good time, but it was KingGothalion, which finished a few minutes earlier, which took top honors in the race to conquer the raid. Gothalion and company completed the raid with stats worthy of being printed on the backs of trading cards.
The six-member squad racked up 548 kills and were obviously functioning as a single entity, considering they amassed a total of 489 assists. Suffering 125 deaths, KingGothalion finished the raid with a kill/death ratio of 4.38.
"The Taken King" was the pinnacle of Destiny's sophomore year, but there's still much more to come in the years ahead, according to Bungie. For most players, Orxy is still undefeated, and it's not quite time to look ahead.
"For many a Guardian, the pinnacle activity of The Taken King's player experience still beckons—heroes are about to be born," Bungie said. "We've seen players plunge into the howling darkness and emerge from the smoldering aftermath as legends. It's a thing we love to witness. It's time to see who among you can enter the clearing first."
