Hogwarts Never Looked So Good: Scholastic Releases Art From Harry Potter Illustrated Edition

Muggles still can't get enough of Harry Potter. In October, for the first time ever, one of the books of the series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, will be re-released complete with full-color illustrations by Jim Kay.

The illustrations are intricately detailed that certainly give an air of magic to the wizarding world, where Harry and his friends lived to tell about their escapades against the dark lord, Voldemort.

Renowned illustrator, Jim Kay, is a fitting choice for the first ever illustrated edition for the Harry Potter books. He has received rave reviews for his artworks for other children's fantasy books like A Monster Calls, Bugs and Memory Palace.

As an illustrator for over seven years already, Kay is also working on the concept art for a BBC1 adaptation of the 2004 novel by Susanna Clarke, Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone: The Illustrated Edition will be published by Arthur A. Levine Books/Scholastic and will be out on shelves on Oct. 6. Kay has created more than 100 watercolor illustrations, which imaginatively bring the people and places from the Harry Potter world to a new light.

Here are just some of Jim Kay's gorgeous illustrations for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone:

Hermione

Kay details that he modeled Hermione after his niece. The door behind her is based on the one found at the church, All Saints in Thornham.

Hagrid

Gentle Groundskeeper, half-giant Hagrid was one of Kay's favorite characters to illustrate.

"I love illustrating giants. They remind adults like me of being a small child again, a time when everything was hard to reach, and adults were just a forest of legs. By the way, the little keychain is from a drawing I did many years ago of a 'space monkey,'" he said.

Draco Malfoy

Getting the empty stare in Malfoy's eyes was tricky for Kay as many illustrations look off when eyes are drawn symmetrically. However, Malfoy's gaze as he stands in Madam Malkin's certainly pulls it off.
