In June, Team 17 Digital announced that it was combining the style of its 8-bit puzzle RPG video games The Escapists with the Robert Kirkman comic book series The Walking Dead to create The Escapists: The Walking Dead.
Now, Team 17 has released a trailer that features one of the game's settings as seen in the comics: Alexandria.
The new trailer shows the main character, Rick Grimes, as he traverses the familiar – but now 8-bit – world of Alexandria, fighting off hordes of zombies and trying to survive.
"In this unique game, recreated entirely in the charming 8-bit pixel art style of The Escapists, Rick is in charge of a band of survivors featuring many of the original comic book cast," writes Team 17 on its website. "He must secure the safety of the group by seeking out a safe escape route from each area, and manage several dangerous tasks to keep as many of the group alive as possible."
The Escapists: The Walking Dead follows the same timeline as laid out in The Walking Dead comic books, so players work their way through locations in the same chronological order as events that happened in those locations throughout the comic book series.
The game features five locations from The Walking Dead, along with crafting features, well-known characters, daily routines for survival, guns and hordes of zombies, along with Steam cloud saves, achievements and leaderboards.
The new game capitalizes on the success of The Escapists, which sold over 600,000 copies at launch on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
Team 17 has not yet set a release date for The Escapists: The Walking Dead, but the game will get a release on both the PC and Xbox One.
