Amazon’s Fire TV Set Top Box Gets A Gaming Edition Bundled With Its Own Controller

Included among the deluge of Amazon hardware announcements is a new take on the company's Fire TV set top box. The straightforwardly named Amazon Fire TV Gaming Edition takes clear aim at the newly announced Apple TV, sporting its own controller, expandable microSD storage, and bumped-up processing power.

Oh, and for good measure the company has also included two games in the $140 bundle – Shovel Knight and the nostalgia-filled Disney's DuckTales, which usually go for $25 a pop.

The media player is designed specifically for the company's game store, which sports a slew of casual games like Pac Man 256 and Goat Simulator, as well as higher-end PC titles like Lego Marvel Super Heroes and Batman Arkham Asylum.

The new controller features an audiojack for headphones and a built-in mic for voice search and Alexa access. It runs on AA batteries and should be able to get 90 hours of life per pop. Amazon will also be offering up the Game Controller as a standalone for those who already own the set top box.

The Amazon Fire TV Gaming Edition is set to start shipping Oct. 5.
