Nintendo has announced at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2014 that Pac-Man will join Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Wii U and 3DS.
During a special Super Smash Bros. event at the E3, Masahiro Sakurai, the director of the game, announced Pac-Man as the thirty third playable character in the game.
"Pac-Man joins the battle!" tweeted Nintendo America.
"Mr. Sakurai and some others from Nintendo battle it out using Pac-Man, Mega Man, Mario and Sonic! Who will be victorious?" it posted in another tweet.
Nintendo claims that Pac-Man will have some interesting abilities in Super Smash Bros. The new character will be able to throw fruits and eat power pellets.
The release date for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, previously slated for this summer, has now been pushed to October 3 in North America. However, the company has changed the release of the Wii U version of the game. Previously, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U was expected to hit the shelves sometime between December this year and Feb. 2015. However, the company announced at the E3 that gamers will be able to buy a copy of the game during this year's holiday season.
Prior to the introduction of Pac-Man, Nintendo also announced that Lady Palutena will be available as a playable character in Nintendo Wii U and 3DS. Lady Palutena, a fictional goddess, had appeared in Super Smash Bros. games previously but she was never available as a playable character.
The introduction of Pac-Man in Super Smash Bros. may not come as a surprise to many people as previous rumors indicated that Pac-Man along with other characters such as Mega Man, Wii Fit Trainer and more will appear in the game. Mega Man and Wii Fit Trainer had already made their way to the game and now gamers will also be able to play as Pac-Man.
Microsoft Xbox and Sony PlayStation are more popular in the gaming industry when compared to Nintendo Wii U. The success of Mario Kart 8 seems may have attracted many gamers to Nintendo Wii U and with the introduction of Pac-Man in Super Smash Bros., the gaming console may entice more gamers and give stiff competition to Xbox and PlayStation.
