Toyota has launched the Prius 2016, which has a sporty look and has better fuel efficiency.
The Japanese carmaker launched the fourth-generation of the Prius at an event in Las Vegas. Prius sales has dropped in the U.S. by 17 percent year-over-year through to August this year due to reducing gasoline price.
The sales of not only Toyota Prius but other hybrid cars have also been affected due to a drop in gasoline price; however, the Prius still remains one of the most popular hybrid vehicles in the American market.
Some market experts believe that a new Prius model was much awaited in the market.
"With the aged outgoing model and low gas prices dragging down sales, the 2016 Prius will be a much-needed shot in the arm for not only Toyota, but the entire green-car segment," says Jeremy Acevedo an analyst with Edmunds.com.
The Prius 2016 has lighter and smaller hybrid system components as well as higher-energy density in its batteries. The car also touts excellent thermal efficiency that contributes to enhanced fuel efficiency.
"With an expected ten percent improvement in EPA estimated MPG on core models, Prius will offer best-in-class fuel economy among vehicles without a plug," per the official press release of the Toyota Prius 2016. "A soon-to-be unveiled Eco model will achieve an even greater improvement, strengthening Toyota's leadership in hybrid fuel efficiency."
Toyota also suggests that fuel economy is one aspect of any car but now customers also search for a vehicle that has great looks as well as performance. Toyota has given a face-lift to the car and the next-generation vehicle looks sportier.
The Prius 2016 is sleeker and longer from the sides. Toyota has moved the roof peak forward and the hood will be lower in the Prius 2016.
The new Toyota hybrid also has new LED headlamps that Toyota says minimizes the front fascia of the car. The car will be available in a new hue called "Hypersonic Red."
Toyota is expecting to start sales of the all-new Toyota Prius 2016 in the first quarter of 2016. While Toyota has not confirmed a price tag for the Prius 2016, market observers believe that the car will have a starting price of about £22,000.
