Wearables are currently the biggest trend in mobile computing and typically get strapped to your wrist. Ringly focuses on bringing smart watch features to women's fingers with its new smart ring.
Smart watches are a device many technology companies are working on to extend the usefulness of smartphones. Samsung has already begun its assault by releasing a few different smart watches like the Galaxy Gear, Gear 2, and Gear 2 Neo, all of which provide users with notifications via a connected Samsung smartphone.
Google launched its Android Wear OS to be the driving force behind upcoming wearables that include LG's G Watch and Motorola's Moto 360 smart watches. The first generation of devices will likely appeal to male gadget enthusiasts who don't mind wearing somewhat bulky oversized watches in order to stay connected to the smartphones found in their pockets.
This leaves a huge untapped market of women who wouldn't be caught dead wearing such a geeky device. Now females can get a more stylish option that is worn on their finger in the form of the Ringly smart ring for iPhone and Android smartphones.
Ringly is fashionably crafted with premium materials such as 18-karat matte gold plating for its band and the choice of various precious and semi-precious stones. Ringly is a stylish smart ring and has a discreet appearance that doesn't broadcast you're wearing a wearable computing device.
"Our goal is to create products that are both stylish and useful, that women will be proud to wear. We believe that the future of wearables is in building discreet technology that integrates seamlessly into your life and makes your day-to-day easier. The more I use my Ringly, the more it's like a personal assistant telling me what to do. Plus, there's something so fun about having my jewelry talk to me!" said Ringly co-founder and CEO Christina Mercando.
Ringly works by connecting with iPhone and Android smartphones via Bluetooth. It provides subtle notifications in the form of custom colors and vibrations set by the user though a free iOS and Android app. The app will provide notifications for phone calls, texts, emails, calendar alerts, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other services.
Ringly has started taking pre-orders and is offering four different choices based on stone selection, in sizes 6, 7 and 8. The company is offering the smart ring for $145, which is a 25 percent savings given to early supporters. Early adopters who are among the first 1,000 orders will receive a Ringly with a real diamond on the side near the notification light.
Ringly comes with its own ring box that also serves double duty as the ring's charger. The company claims that Ringly should last 2-plus days before needing to be recharged. Ringly expects to begin shipping the first round of orders in the fall and has also announced that it is working on a men's version.
