Apple iPhone Users Report Getting False iOS 9 Upgrade Notice

Some iOS 9 beta users are reportedly receiving notifications that the full version of the new mobile OS is now available, but it's just a glitch.

Apple is due to release its latest iOS 9 operating system soon, but not just yet. The company has a big launch event scheduled for Sept. 9, where it will unveil its new iOS hardware such as the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPad Pro and a new Apple TV and will likely announce the official release of iOS 9 as well.

Ahead of the big event, however, some iOS users running the beta version of the upcoming iOS 9 took to popular site Reddit to reveal early notifications for the new OS (see image above).

It seems that a number of users saw a system alert that notified them that a new version of iOS 9 is now ready to download and install as an update for the beta, but it's not really ready just yet. Despite this notification, no update actually appears as available from the device's Settings menu, where users typically download new iOS versions.

The fact that no update is actually found in the phone's Settings menu strongly suggests that the system alert some iOS 9 beta users received is just a glitch for now. At the same time, it also bolsters claims that the full version of iOS 9 will officially start rolling out in a couple of days, once Apple makes the announcement at its Sept. 9 event in San Francisco.

More specifically, iOS 9 is expected to start rolling out to beta users immediately after the announcement on Sept. 9, but not to the general public. iOS users who are not part of the beta should receive the latest iOS version one week later than beta users, on Sept. 16.

The new and improved version of Apple's mobile operating system will bring a number of neat features to the table, including a smarter, more contextually-aware Siri digital assistant, a new News app, as well as some much-needed updates to the infamous Apple Maps, which will finally get public-transit directions. Other tweaks and features are also in the mix, aiming to improve the iOS experience overall.

The system alerts hitting iOS 9 beta users now may be just glitches, but the new OS is nonetheless coming soon.
