Apple is set to release its next iPhone to the public in a matter of a few days, with the company having scheduled an event for September 9.
A marketing firm, however, is asking the company to make a last minute change about what it plans on calling the new device. The firm is called 6S Marketing, and it's asking Apple to skip the name 6S and go straight to the iPhone 7.
The firm is so adamant about asking for the change that it has launched a pretty amusing campaign to try and make Apple consider the request. The firm put up a billboard in Times Square in New York, as well as a mobile billboard outside the Apple Store in New York. The billboards have a very simple message: "Dear Apple, Please call it the iPhone 7. Sincerely, 6S Marketing."
Along with the message are a Web address, WeAre6S.com, as well as the hashtag #WeAre6S. The Web page points to a blog post about why Chris Breikss and John Blown decided to call their marketing firm 6S back when it was started in 2000. 6S has made use of the hashtag in the past in an attempt to raise awareness about the company.
Of course, whatever name Apple has settled upon, it won't be changing it now. The company's big event is in a matter of days, and the iPhone 6S has likely already been mass-produced so that it can be sold to the public toward the end of September.
It's unlikely that 6S even thinks that it can convince Apple to change the name of the phone, but it's still a pretty funny campaign to raise awareness of the company.
