Frank Miller's Dark Knight III: The Master Race is probably one of the most highly anticipated comics of the year, and now we have our first look at one of the book's covers, this one a retail variant that could include your local comic book store's logo.
The new cover features art by Dave Johnson, based on a sketch by Jim Lee. Interior art comes courtesy of Andy Kubert, as well as Klaus Janson, who inked the original 1986 comic book miniseries that eventually saw an adaptation as an animated movie in 2012.
"The epic ending you never saw coming is here because you demanded it!" writes DC Comics on its official website. "The Dark Knight rises again to face the dawn of the master race!"
The new cover is a throwback to the original The Dark Knight Returns artwork, also drawn by Miller, inked by Janson and colored by Lynn Varley.
Of course, this new cover is only a variant cover and depending on your local comic book store, it may not even be the final cover you see. But it is the first cover art we've seen for Dark Knight III: The Master Race, and it's likely we'll see other variant covers revealed soon.
"Want to know more?" asked DC Comics in a press release. "Want this for yourself? Of course you do! Connect with your local comic book retailer and find out which cover(s) they're ordering!"
DC announced Dark Knight III: The Master Race back in April of this year after Miller confirmed on Twitter that he was working on the title.
Dark Knight III: The Master Race is the third in a series, preceded by The Dark Knight Strikes Again and The Dark Knight Returns. So far, DC has not released any plot details about the new title.
Dark Knight III: The Master Race releases on Nov. 25.
