Car enthusiasts are now counting down the days, hours, minutes and seconds until March 2016 — the unveiling date for the ultra-exclusive Lamborghini Centenario LP 770-4 at the Geneva Motor Show.
According to the French publication TF1, the new Lamborghini model will be based on the existing Aventador SV model, which was first revealed in July.
Initially, there was speculation that this new supercar model would be called "HyperVeloce," but the French media negated these earlier reports.
The company said it has decided to use the name "Centenario," in celebration of the 100th birthday of Ferruccio Lamborghini, the company's founder. Lamborghini was born on April 28, 1916.
The hypercar will reportedly boast a 6.5-liter V-12 engine that will make 760 hp — that's 19 hp more than the Lamborghini Aventador SV.
Additionally, the top speed is expected to surpass 217 mph. Reports say this speed will make it 0.2s quicker than the Aventador model. This means the car will blaze to 100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds.
Tech Times earlier reported: "The Aventador SV is currently one of the fastest vehicles in production, with the vehicle able to manage a lap time on the Nürburgring track of just below seven minutes."
Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann announced in July the launching of its Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce Coupe after it displayed a lightning U.K. debut performance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
In an effort to differentiate it from the existing Aventador model, the Centenario will purportedly feature some aerodynamic tweaks as well as visual changes — which could further explain its steep tag price, reportedly coming in at over one million euros, or about $1.15 million.
While there is no info yet on the design of the new car, there's speculation that whereas visual tweaks can be expected, this hypercar will most likely not look as radical as the Veneno.
The model is also rumored to have only a limited production run. Specifically, rumors say the car company will only build 20 units of the Centenario.
Considered to be one the major motor shows in the world, the Geneva International Motor Show will take place March 3 through 13, 2016.
