Apple TV's NFL channel received a new update that adds a Game Pass feature to the app, which offers live and on-demand streaming of pre-season games.
The latest update means that NFL fans who have a Game Pass subscription can watch live out-of-market and on-demand NFL games through their Apple TV for the first time. Game Pass subscribers get access to 65 pre-season and 256 regular season games live. On-demand regular season games are available a day after they are aired.
Game Pass also offers access to archived games from 2009 to 2014. Subscribers of Game Pass also enjoy games since 2012 in HD, without any commercials, including the last Super Bowl.
NFL fans who want to subscribe to Game Price will have to splash $99.99 and the subscription will run through July 31, 2016.
In July this year, NFL got rid of its Game Rewind program, which gave U.S.-based customers access to on-demand NFL games after they were aired on broadcast television. Game Pass has replaced Game Rewind and access has been added to Apple TV as well as the NFL Mobile app for iPad and iPhone.
"ALL NEW for the 2015 season, NFL Mobile is the best, pure football app for any fan. The redesign of the Official NFL app brings fans a different experience depending on the day and time," per the product description of the NFL Mobile app on iTunes. "All fans can access NFL Game Pass subscription content, including the ability to watch live Preseason games, within NFL Mobile."
Apple is expected to reveal an updated version of the Apple TV at an event in San Francisco on Sept. 9. Most probably the company will highlight the latest Game Pass feature at the upcoming event.
The NFL 2015 regular season will kick off on Sept. 11, and the latest upgrade to Apple TV that adds Game Pass may tempt many NFL fans to subscribe to the feature.
