Citymapper’s New Boarding Strategy Feature Tells Commuters Where To Board Trains

Citymapper has introduced a new feature called Boarding Strategy that helps commuters by directing them to the best area of a train to board. The feature directs passengers by choosing the best train car for them to exit from for the next leg of their journey.

There was once a time when inexperienced train travelers, especially tourists from areas other than those they were traveling in, had to rely on the kindness of a stranger to aid them in finding the right train or track to wait on to continue their journey. Though most fellow commuters were glad to be helpful, the accuracy of their information was not always correct, resulting in missed or incorrect trains and connections.

Transport Apps like CooCoo and Citymapper have revolutionized urban train and subway travel, and have made it much easier for commuters to get on the right train at the right time. Now, Citymapper has introduced a brand new feature designed to make it even faster and easier to get to the right destination.

Citymapper's new Boarding Strategy feature tells commuters not only which train to take and at what time, but exactly which area or car of the train to board in order to get to the next connection on their journey or ultimate destination the fastest.

"In peak hours this will knock minutes off your journey time and lead to more combined zen in the city. We have collected this data as much as we've been able to in all our cities," a Citymapper blog post stated.

For those who don't regularly ride the city trains and subways, this may not seem like a huge issue, but consider that travelers on the NYC subway system, for example, may have to walk an additional five blocks to reach their desired exit if they have boarded the wrong end of the train. Then consider that those five blocks could be covered within the station while idly waiting for the next train to arrive, rather than tacking on the extra distance upon exiting.

While commuters are sure to be pleased that this new feature has finally arrived, most are still waiting for the ultimate "boarding strategy" feature—one that tells them where they can actually get a seat.
