The coolest part about the Mad Max franchise is definitely the rusty, dented, and excessively pointy vehicles that all manner of lunatics drive around the film's post-apocalyptic wasteland. It's for that reason that Uber's latest promotion is so darn cool.
For a limited time, those in need of a ride in the downtown Seattle area can catch a ride in a car that looks like it could have been pulled straight out of Mad Max: Fury Road. The promotion is going from Aug. 28 to Aug. 31 until 6 P.M. to celebrate the release of the Mad Max video game and Blu-ray release of Mad Max: Fury Road on Sept. 1.
Better yet, the rides are free, because who needs money in the Wasteland?
Free and insanely cool? What's not to like? Just look at this lineup of cars. From Jeeps to modified Volkswagen Beetles, these cars look like they've driven to hell and back. The baby blue and shark mouth on one car in particular is a nice touch, standing out from the usual rust-bucket feel that the majority of other cars embrace. Each car is emblazoned with a small ad for the Mad Max game, but they are hardly noticeable when most people are gawking at the rest of the vehicle.
Uber planned this well, as over the weekend one of the biggest video game conventions, PAX Prime, was going on in the Seattle area. That means plenty of gamers had the opportunity to ride around town with their own personal Warboy, and no doubt they will tell their friends about it (and maybe mention the game while they are at it.)
What is Uber going to do with these metal monstrosities once the promotion is over? Locking them up in a garage seems like a darn shame. Maybe we'll see them again once the next Mad Max film hits theaters. Considering director George Miller's Fury Road released 30 years after the franchise's previous installment, it might be a while.
