We've said it before and we'll say it again: Super Mario Maker has no limits. This latest video is yet another example, showing how Nintendo's Mario game creation tool doesn't just have to be used for good... it can also be used for evil.
It's all thanks to user Kocobe, who has crafted a devilishly deceptive Mario level that will take more than a few gamers by surprise. The level is currently featured by Nintendo, and it looks innocent enough. It's a level that Kocobe claims will let users unlock all of Mario's various costumes that can be found in the game. As Kotaku explains, maps like these are fairly common in Super Mario Maker. A creator will line up power-up blocks housing costumes so players can easily stroll from left to right and unlock them.
Sounds simple — but Kocobe's map isn't what it appears to be. Instead of the map handing players the costumes on a silver platter, it instead forces them onto an underground railway system, as Hammer Bros. toss mallets from above. Players are completely unable to do anything. They are trapped for the duration of the level under a brick wall, forced to see the level to its completion.
This is when the trolling begins. If you listen closely, you'll notice that the music playing in the background sounds eerily familiar. That's because it is none other than Rick Astley's classic troll anthem "Never Gonna Give You Up" — only this time, recreated using Super Mario Maker's music creation tools.

Just when you thought one of the Internet's oldest memes had gone away, it comes back in a new form, hiding in plain sight. It's just another example of how powerful Super Mario Maker is. From making bullet hell shooters to practical jokes (and music), the game should provide hours of entertainment for creators and players alike.
Super Mario Maker releases on the Wii U. September 11.
