Sony's new horror game Until Dawn is a spooky good time, but perhaps the scariest aspect of Until Dawn is being unable to play.
More than a few PlayStation 4 players have found themselves trapped in a real-life horror story after pre-purchasing the game digitally from the PlayStation Store. In theory, this would allow them to pre-install the game so it could be played the moment it was released on Aug. 25.
That's not exactly how things went for many users, who have now taken to Reddit and Sony's forums to complain. When attempting to start the game, an error message appears that claims it will be 128 days until the game is available.
Not to worry, however, as Sony says it is on the case.
"Our store team is currently investigating the issue," a member of the Sony support team says on the Sony forum. "We'll update the thread once we receive an update."
One Reddit user says they received a similar answer after calling the Sony support number, with the user being told it should be working by "tonight." That was on Aug. 26, and so far it looks like the issue is still not resolved, with still no update from Sony. Many users are asking for a refund, though some have been able to find a workaround by uninstalling all Until Dawn content, restoring the licenses to their PlayStation 4 and then reinstalling the game.
Buying a game digitally is supposed to be easier than walking down to the local game store and getting a physical copy, but that wasn't the case for these fans. Hopefully the issue is resolved soon. The fact that Until Dawn is receiving positive reviews certainly doesn't make the wait any easier.
