Kraft Recalls Over Two Million Pounds Of Turkey Bacon

Kraft turkey bacon products that have already hit store shelves - and probably in your kitchen may spoil before the labeled expiry date.

The company is recalling over two million pounds of the products.

The United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) and Kraft Heinz Foods Company announced Aug. 25 that the Newberry, SC establishment is recalling 2,068,467 pounds of turkey bacon products with "Best Used By" dates from August to September this year, because they might spoil earlier than expected.

After receiving complaints from its customers, Kraft conducted an investigation and discovered the spoilage-related problem.

The products being recalled are labeled 'P-9070' (found inside USDA's mark of inspection), with the line number 'RS19.' The turkey bacon products, which were produced from May 31 to Aug. 16 this year, are in stores nationwide and were also shipped as exports to St. Martin and the Bahamas.

The following turkey bacon products with varying expiry dates are subject to recall:

While no adverse reactions have been reported to the FSIS yet, Kraft has received reports of illnesses due to the consumption of these products.

The Kraft Heinz Consumer Relations Center hotline (800) 278-3403 is open to consumers who have questions regarding the recall. The company's Head of Communications Jody Moore can in turn be contacted by media through (847) 646-4538.

For food safety questions, consumers may also ask FSIS through its virtual representative AskKaren, available any time of the day via smartphone. USDA's Meat and Poultry Hotline 1-888-MPHotline (1-888-674-6854) is also open Mondays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern time.

For any signs of an illness or injury, the USDA and Kraft said consumers should seek medical assistance.
