Samsung is taking another step to try to dominate the home audio market. It's doing it with new crisp, clear, high-quality sound.
Samsung Electronics has announced the R5, R3 and R1 models as the three new additions to its Wireless Audio 360 speaker range, as reported by the Samsung Tomorrow blog. The models will be featured at the IFA 2015 consumer electronics and home appliance trade show next month in Berlin.
The speakers tout a new tap-and-swipe interface, along with a bolstered multi-room app for customers' Android and iOS smartphones, tablets and smartwatches to connect to, as some of its boasted features. The smartwatch functionality allows music playback and volume control of the speakers, as well as playlist and queue searching. The interface in particular allows users to control the volume, play, pause and music source all with a simple tap or swipe on top of the speaker.
The new hardware follows the company's R7 and R6 speakers, which were received well as part of Samsung's Wireless Audio 360 offerings. Like their predecessors, the new speakers use a proprietary ring-radiator technology, which gives off a crisp sound with a mid-range that can fill any room.
"With these additional models we are bringing a new kind of high quality sound to the market, with design that is simple, yet premium, and offers a more intuitive user interface," Jurack Chae, senior vice president of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, told Samsung Tomorrow. "The R5, R3 and R1 will help cement Samsung's position as a world leader in home audio."
Samsung has also partnered with Qobuz, an online music service, to offer high-resolution music streaming on Samsung's audio devices, including the new speaker additions.
Although an exact date hasn't been announced, the new speaker models are scheduled to hit stores in U.S. and European markets during the fourth quarter of this year, equipped with prices ranging from $199 to $399.
