Video Turns 'Mario Kart' Into A Real-Life Skateboard Race

Ever wanted to really ride Rainbow Road in Mario Kart? OK, you still can't do that, but this comes pretty close: a video of a real-life Mario Kart race ... on skateboards.

To be more accurate, the video, titled "Mario Skate," is a hodge-podge of different elements from the Marioverse — even if Luigi, the star of the video, doesn't race anyone per se, only against a timer on a leaderboard. In the highly-stylized YouTube vid, the green-hatted, mustachioed plumber zooms down sidewalks and over blacktops, snatching CGI'd gold coins while dodging Bullet Bill, for instance — but Kart-esque elements are still intact, like shortcuts that take him over a Wario's lair-style pit of lava or being pursued by a green tortoiseshell.

What about Mario? The titular character of the famous Nintendo franchise does make an appearance in the end — and Luigi's reaction to it alludes to a bit more of a brotherly rivalry than the video games let catch on.

The video was created by Corridor Digital (whose tagline for their website states: "We make those YouTube videos you might have heard about), who labels themselves as a "small team of Internet-video creators," whose creative members include directors Sam Gorski and Niko Pueringer and producer Jake Watson. The videos Corridor Digital shoots and releases are all inspired by the sci-fi, action and video game genres.

The skateboards in the video were lent to Corridor Digital by the company Boosted Boards, which manufactures motorized skateboards.
