At WWDC 2014, Apple took the wraps off its next-generation iOS 8. There are tons of new features, let's take a look at iOS 8's top features.
When Apple unveiled iOS 7 at WWDC 2013, its mobile operating system received a major facelift in the form of a flatter appearance and brightly colored icons. Apple has polished up the look of iOS 8 and added many welcomed features that will please iOS fans when Apple releases the free upgrade in the fall.
Here's a quick look at the top features in iOS 8:
Keyboard - Apple's iOS keyboard has finally grown up and can play with others. Apple describes iOS 8's keyboard as its smartest keyboard. iOS 8 will now predict what a user is going to type and will present three words above the keyboard for them to choose, allowing them to theoretically write complete sentences with a few taps. Users will also be able to replace Apple's keyboard with a third party keyboard, which means they will soon be able to use Swype and SwiftKey on their iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, something Android users have enjoyed for years.
Health - iOS 8's new Health app works by collecting data from all of the user's health and fitness apps and present the information in a centralized location. They will be able to quickly see their latest information via Health's Dashboard view. The app will also allow the user to create an emergency card that displays important health information on the lockscreen. The app is expected to work very closely with Apple's rumored iWatch, which will monitor different aspects of the user's health and fitness routine.
Actionable Notifications - iOS 8 is adding another feature Android users have enjoyed in the form of Actionable Notifications. They will be able to respond to incoming notifications without leaving their current app or screen. For instance, when a new text comes in, users will now be able to respond without being thrown into the Messages application.
Messages - Apple has updated Messages and one of its new features is having the ability to capture sound and send it over text. A new microphone button has been added to Messages that allows users to record voice messages, and once finished, users will simply swipe up to send it. They will also be able to send multiple photos and videos, instead of the archaic one at a time we've come accustomed to.
Apple has released iOS 8 beta 1 to developers for testing and will release the final build to current iOS users for free sometime this fall.
