Swatch will be competing with Apple as well as with other smartwatch makers as it reveals the new models that it has already lined up for launch.
The company, which has its headquarters based in Biel, Switzerland, released a video of its wearable called "Touch Zero One" which is designed for those who love to play volleyball.
"Our product is called Touch Zero One and it gives enough room for Zero Five, Zero Nine," said CEO Nick Hayek. "The Touch Zero One is not the end of the progression."
In the video, a female was seen wearing the smartwatch while playing volleyball. As the video rolls, it pointed out the several features that one can find in the watch. According to the video, the Touch Zero One can measure the power of the player's hit and how much she claps. It can even count the number of steps made and can calculate the total distance travelled. It also has a calorie counter for those who want to know how many calories they have already burned after doing some activities. When matched with a smartphone, the player can do a host of other things such as picking a virtual coach, setting goals and tracking all activities. Lastly, the video says that the wearable is waterproof and uses a standard Swatch battery which, according to Hayek, is powerful enough to last nine months.
"The Touch Zero One is your perfect beach volleyball companion. It's fun. Smart. Sporty," said the company on its official site.
Hayek plans to launch Touch Zero Two next year in time for the Olympic Games that is scheduled to take place in Rio de Janeiro. The company also plans to launch smartwatches this year that are embedded with the "near field communication" chip.
"The next version, which Swatch Touch Zero Two, we will launch in the Olympic Games in Rio," added Hayek. "The clock as an alternative to credit card, Near Field Communication, we will launch later this year on the market. The technology works, we will fix just last details with our partners from the credit card industry. One can also be used for access control the clock. In the medical sector, we are guaranteed not penetrate. I cannot take responsibility for it as a watch producer if my device customers early warning of a heart attack."
Hayek's strategy focuses on creating a watch that's simple and can actually do more than tell the time. He's not interested in creating something which has multi-purpose features, making it a sort of a "computer for the wrist."
Future models of the watch will have specific applications that will cater to various other sports players such as freeride skiers and surfers. There will also be a wearable that will carry special functions meant particularly for those who love to cook.
