'Madden NFL 16' Releases Over-The-Top Movie Trailer

If it wasn't for the NFL players who appear in the Madden NFL 16 movie trailer, then it wouldn't have much of anything to do with football at all. OK ... even with the NFL stars appearing in the trailer, it doesn't have much of anything to do with football at all.

Yet, in support of the highly-anticipated Madden NFL 16 release, EA Sports released Madden: The Movie trailer on Friday (August 21), and simply put, it's by far the most absurd, over-the-top, entertaining trailer that the popular video game series has ever made.

The four-minute and 57-second trailer features everything from insane explosions to deaths and even a Tyrannosaurus Rex. The zany plot has actors Dave Franco and Christopher Mintz-Plasse enlisting a team of NFL playmakers — Julio Jones, Rob Gronkowski, Colin Kaepernick, Antonio Brown and coach Rex Ryan — to defeat an evil boss in a game of Madden NFL 16. The twisted enemy kidnapped Franco's girlfriend, giving him 24 hours to play him in a game of Madden if he ever wants to see her again. That's why Franco's character calls on some heavy backup via the playmakers.

He gets it in the form of a bazooka-blasting Half Top (played by Gronkowski), flying super hero Trick Montalban (Jones), owner of the best hands in Sticky Bun (Brown), Lil' Pepper (Ryan) and, most hilariously, Kaepernick portraying Al Pacino from Scent of a Woman. Really. The scene stealer comes when Jones's character chops an enemy down to size for about 20 seconds straight. Although Ryan's endless screaming comes across pretty strong on screen as well.

Madden NFL 16 game footage is shown in between all the sheer madness to remind gamers why they're watching the funny trailer in the first place.

The latest title in the beloved series hits stores next Tuesday (August 25). Pick it up or get ready to hear an earful from Lil' Pepper ... we mean Ryan.
