Gentle Giant, a company that specializes in 3D models and specialty items, has announced that it will release a line of Marvel micro-bobbleheads for collectors, all of which will include a Secret Wars backer card based on the comic book crossover line. The bobbleheads themselves are modeled after the Mattel Secret Wars action figures from the '80s.
The first wave of bobbles will be released this fall; characters include Spider-man, Black Costume Spider-man, Wolverine and Hobgoblin. Eventually, all bobbles will be available for purchase in a 12-piece set.
As a firm and a studio, Gentle Giant is most known for blueprinting and producing 3D representations of characters from famous franchises – mostly of the superhero and speculative genres – as well as "digitally [capturing] the likenesses of actors, props and scenery to accurately recreate these images for fans and collectors everywhere."
As per Gentle Giant's site, each bobble is digitally scanned and "reproduced in a 2.5" Bobble head format." The backer cards feature original artwork and photos of each specific character-cum-figurine from the comics series.
Here is a synopsis of the Secret Wars line, as summarized by Gentle Giant:
"Secret Wars was a 12 part series from Marvel Comics that introduced the character of The Beyonder to the Marvel Universe. The Beyonder, assembles a planet from chunks of other planets and dubs it 'Battleworld.' He then kidnaps several heroes and villains from Earth, and transplants them on Battleworld to fight for The Beyonder's amusement."
