Skype released Skype 5.10 for devices powered by Google's Android operating system, adding two new features that will provide users with new ways for expressing themselves.
According to the official Skype blog post detailing the new features, the communications service said that the upgrades were made in accordance to the feedback that it has received from its users, in a bid to further improve the user experience on Skype.
The first new feature allows users to personalize ring tones for contacts. For users to customize the incoming call sounds for their contacts, they simply have to tap on the lower right portion of a conversation with the contact and then choose ringtone options. The user should then choose the option to set a custom ringtone, allowing them to customize the ring tone for that contact with a ring tone from their device.
The second new feature allows users to share the pictures that they receive in chat conversations with other friends and family members on Skype to other users, even if the users are not included in the conversation where the picture was sent. To access the feature, users can look for the picture and then tap and hold on the photo. An option to forward the photo will pop up, allowing the users to send the picture to any of their contacts.
In addition to the new features, Skype 5.10 for Android also adds several fixes and makes additional improves to Skype, including changes to the colors of the avatars within group chats so that users will be able to easily distinguish one conversation from all the others.
Users that would like to provide feedback to Skype can do so by tapping on the three dots icon to pull up the app's menu and then tap on settings. The feedback option can be found in the support section.
The latest version of Skype for Android is now available through the Google Play Store.
Earlier this month, Skype announced that it is launching the preview version of the Skype for Business app for Android and iOS devices. According to Microsoft, users that have the Lync 2013 apps installed in their devices will automatically receive Skype for Business before the end of the year.
