Fashion Shoot Teases Galaxy Gear S2: Here Are The Rumored Specs, Features And Pricing For The Next Samsung Smartwatch

Samsung is already teasing its upcoming Gear 2 smartwatch ahead of the big announcement in September and a fashion shoot offers a glimpse of the gadget.

Although the Samsung Gear 2 smartwatch will debut in all its glory next month, when we'll learn all the details, the company is now giving the world a first look at the design of the upcoming device (Samsung previously touted an upcoming smartwatch, but it ran Android Wear).

A fashion shoot now shows the stylish smartwatch, featuring beautiful models wearing the Gear 2. Based on these images, the upcoming smartwatch from Samsung doesn't appear to be excessively big, and its round form factor and minimalist design add to its elegance.

The next-generation Gear 2 will run Samsung's own Tizen operating system, not Android Wear, and it will be the first smartwatch in the company's lineup to feature a round design. So far, all Samsung smartwatches have sported rectangular form factors. With the round-shaped Gear 2, Samsung may be able to better compete against rivals such as the Moto 360 and LG Watch Urbane, which have stirred notable interest due to their classical design.

The round display of the Samsung Gear 2 gives it a more traditional look, marking a big change in design compared to its Gear S predecessor. The Gear 2 software design and applications sport big changes as well, now boasting a far cleaner and more minimalist interface.

In terms of functionality, the Gear 2 will come with a host of neat features one would expect from a next-generation smartwatch. The gadget will measure the wearer's heart rate, display calendar alerts or messages and span a variety of apps, including Nike+.

In addition to Wi-Fi connectivity, the upcoming Samsung Gear 2 is also expected to boast a SIM card slot just like the Gear S, allowing it to function independently from a companion smartphone. The smartwatch should also leverage Samsung Pay, especially since rival Apple Watch supports Apple Pay, but Samsung has yet to confirm it.

When it comes to the price of the upcoming smartwatch, the Samsung Gear 2 will reportedly retail for around $300.

The company will officially take the wraps off the new Samsung Gear 2 at its IFA event in Berlin on Sept. 3, when it should also offer hardware specs, as well as exact pricing and release details. For now, the fashion shoot teaser only offers a glimpse of what's to come.
